Questions about hypnotherapy and Hypnosis.

Q. Can anybody be hypnotised?
A. Pretty much. The exceptions are: those who suffer from mental handicap or suffering from senility, very young children, "hard drug" addicts, anybody under the influence of large amounts of alcohol. ... Note: The hypnotic procedure is very much a co-operation between client and therapist whilst employing an intelligent and mature approach, when any, or all of the above mentioned factors are lacking then achieving a hypnotic state becomes increasing more difficult.

Q. How do you hypnotise somebody?
A. Usually by a voice induction, though there are various other methods such as strobe lights, rotating spirals, soft/ easy to listen to music and so on. Usually the voice induction is used andmostly, a slow and soothing approach is taken. \the client will close their eyes fairly soon in the induction, after hypnosis is induced (usually in a matter of a few minutes) a deepener routine might be used to deepen the state.

Q. Can people be made to forget things, like suggestions or the session itself?
A. You cannot make anybody do anything against their will, Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy require the complete co-operation of the client or (subject). There is no such thing as magic or taking over someone's mind. If any suggestion were to be given that the client felt objectionable about, they would immediately open their eyes and express their control of the session.

Q. Is it good for Sports/Exam, Performance enhancement?
A. Hypnosis EXCELS at performance enhancement of all types! Here are just a few of the things with which it can make profound improvement:

  • Sporting performance
  • Career matters
  • Memory and Concentration
  • Stage Actor performance
  • Study
  • Exams and tests , including driving test.
  • Presentation/speaking skills.

Q. Is there anybody who should not be hypnotised?
A. Generally speaking No, however if you currently under medical supervision for an emotionally based condition or if you suffer with epilepsy it is always advisable to consult with you own GP. (feel free to direct your medical professional to my website or ask them to contact me personally).

Q. What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
A. It changes from person to person, for the vast majority of people, there is actually no such thing as a specific hypnotised feeling, the vast majority of people would ask "did I go under" however, after a few sessions, most people start to become more aware of how the state feels to them and most people find it particularly enjoyable and relaxing.

Q. How can you tell if somebody is hypnotised?
A. There are several external signs, though few people show all of them. Some of the most noticeable are: A facial flush, total immobility and relaxation, rapid eye movement, eyelid flicker, enhanced salivation (causing frequent swallowing), slowed respiration, drooping lower jaw.

Q. Can you make anybody do things they don't want to?
A. Definitely not. Hypnosis cannot breach the moral code of the client.

Q. Can you get 'stuck' in hypnosis?
A. No, you definitely cannot! If you were hypnotised and the therapist just walked away and left you, you would simply bring yourself out of the state whenever you wanted to.

Q. Is it dangerous in any way?
A. Not at all, Hypnotherapy is surely the most natural of all alternative therapies. You are doing no more and no less than using the power of your own mind to improve your life-style, happiness and fulfillment.

Q. Phobia, Anxiety, Panic?
A. Is it successful with real phobias?A. Usually immensely so, if the right sort of therapy is employed.

Q. Does it always work?
A. There ar no absolute guarantees just like any other form of medicine, complimentary OR orthodox. However just like orthodox treatments hypnotherapy can have an extremely high success rate.

Q. How long does it take to produce a result?
A. It depends on far too many factors to make a bald statement about this. It can be as few as one session for a simple problem, to as many as... well, that depends on the ethics and skills of the therapist involved. A responsible, properly trained, therapist will not keep a client in therapy longer than necessary.

Q. Can somebody's mind be too strong?
A. No. The stronger the mind, the better the ability to focus and concentrate! The statement 'My mind is too strong to be hypnotised' is really an expression of lack of understanding of what being hypnotised really means, it is usually based on fear and the individuals who say this are often the best subjects of all!
